Mary Whitcomb is a registered nurse and former NICU specialist and writes for KidzUnderConstruction. After earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and becoming Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certified, she spent four years providing hands-on bedside care in a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Children’s Hospital Colorado.
In the NICU, Mary cared for premature and critically ill newborns, managed advanced monitoring equipment, supported families through high-stakes moments, and responded to neonatal emergencies on a daily basis. This frontline experience gave her an intimate understanding of infant physiology, safe sleep practices in clinical settings, and the real-world challenges parents face when their babies need extra support.
After transitioning from hospital nursing to parent education, Mary now uses her clinical background to create clear, evidence-based content for families. Her NICU perspective brings exceptional credibility to topics like baby monitors, wearables, sleep safety, and early infant care – helping parents make informed decisions grounded in real medical experience rather than marketing claims.
At KidzUnderConstruction, Mary contributes articles and reviews that combine her neonatal expertise with a genuine passion for empowering parents during the earliest, most vulnerable stages of their child’s life.
